At-home hair oil treatment is extremely popular. We usually choose ready-made hair oils or blends of oils. There is a product which gives amazing results, it is all natural and budget. How to use olive oil in hair care?

How does olive oil work?

Olive oil has excellent moisturising and protecting qualities. It coats hair with a protective layer delivering smoothness and shine at the same time. Interestingly, after using olive oil, hair is thicker, stiffer (but it’s still easy to style), softer and  more voluminous. The oil is simply cut out for thin frizzy hair.

How to carry out olive oil hair treatment?

Cold-pressed – and thus the highest-quality – olive oil gives the best results. You can apply it in two ways: to wet or dry hair.

1. Wet hair oil treatment is a method that lots of girls swear by as it gives intensive effects. Thanks to this kind of therapy, the hair gets a volume boost and has better absorption of various ingredients. There are a few forms of olive oil hair treatment:

  • hair oil treatment in a bowl – fill in a bowl with warm water and add a tablespoon of olive oil; mix well. Soak the hair in the mixture and then squeeze the excess water. Leave it in hair for around 25 minutes and wash your hair using a gentle shampoo;
  • hair oil treatment enriched with a conditioner or mask – add a few drops of olive oil to a favorite mask or conditioner;
  • oil-based serum – pour 50 ml water and 50 ml olive oil into an atomizer bottle, and (optionally) add two spoons of a conditioner, mask or a chosen semi-finished product. Mix the ingredients well and spray the homemade serum onto hair. After half an hour, wash it off using a mild shampoo. Finally, finish the therapy by rubbing a leave-in conditioner or serum into the lengths.

2. Dry hair oil treatment takes much less time than the wet version but many girls say it doesn’t give as spectacular effects. The dry hair versions include:

  • pre-wash oil treatment – ideal for the lazy and tied-up ones. Apply olive oil 30 minutes before a wash or for the whole night (if you wash hair in the morning);
  • olive oil instead of your silicone-based serum – apply the tiniest amount of the oil immediately after a blow-dry routine to hair ends and lengths to tame unruly strands effectively;
  • olive oil plus silicone-based serum – on the one hand, the mixture of both products protects hair from the external elements and – on the other hand – it nourishes and moisturises.
