We are all big on natural face, body and hair products and treatments. Let’s focus on hair, though. To be more precise, on making it darker naturally. It is a perfect choice for those who want to tweak the look without chemical-laden dyes. The post will show you 3 effective ways for darkening the hair naturally at home!

At first it must be noted that natural remedies don’t make some massive changes but if you’re up for subtle effects, then home treatment is definitely a good choice! The great thing is natural solutions don’t have a negative effect on the condition of hair, or to be more precise, they don’t cause damage (contrary to chemical dyes). They have been known for ages and used by our great grandmas. Some of you will spot the difference after just one treatment while others will need to use them for longer – it depends on the condition and color of your hair. The 3 remedies darken the hair naturally and effectively!

1. Castor oil

Apart from moisturizing and antibacterial effects, castor oil darkens the hair shade! That is why girls use it as a natural eyelash and eyebrow serum, but there’s no reason for not putting it in the hair as well! To deepen the hair color with castor oil you need to do an oil treatment but first think of mixing it with some other oil because it’s quite thick and may weigh hair down. So mix two oils and spread them evenly across the hair, make a high bun, put on a shower cap, wrap the head in a towel and keep the turban for minimum an hour (you can even leave it in for the entire night). To wash the oil out effectively, first apply a conditioner, and then shampoo the hair and scalp. This way you make sure the oil is really out of your hair.

2. Sage

Sage works for use on hair and scalp because of antibacterial and anti-dandruff properties. It is listed here because it has a darkening effect too. To create the mixture you need to make a strong infusion pouring a small amount of boiling water over 2 spoons of sage (or 2 teabags). Cool the mixture down and add it to your shampoo. Of course you can make some more and add it to a conditioner as well. Sage-enriched shampoo or conditioner is used as usual.

3. Nettle rinse

Making a hair rinse is another brilliant way for deepening the color of strands. You can make use of nettle. You can either buy it at the herbal store or pick it on your own in the meadow. Pour boiling water (500 ml) over 3 spoons of nettle. Put the mixture aside. Once it is cool, soak your hair in it for a few minutes. Nettle, apart from darkening the hair, prevents hair loss and speeds up growth. It must be noted, though, that it may also dry the hair out so it’s good to apply a moisturizing conditioner afterwards.
