What is black soap?

Black soap, also known as savon noir, is one of these products that can be prepared on your own, at home. How? Simply by cooking it! Black soap comes from North Africa and is made from oils, olive oil and potassium hydroxide. The cosmetic has to be boiled (to mix the ingredients), and is ready almost right after this procedure (obviously, it has to cool down). What is more, black soap is characterized by its gel-and-gooey consistency.

Black soap – list of ingredients and way of preparing.

In order to prepare black soap, you will need the following ingredients: 230 grams of water (most preferably distilled water), 105 grams of potassium hydroxide, 140 grams of olives (without seeds), 600 grams of olive oil, and your favourite essential oils. You will need also the following accessories: a kitchen scales, a blender, a slow cooker or a heavy-bottom pan, and a silicone spatula. It is also essential to wear rubber gloves and protective goggles since potassium hydroxide has strongly corrosive features.

How to prepare savon noir?

Mix potassium hydroxide with water, blend olives with olive oil and then boil it in a slow cooker (or a heavy-bottom pan) until you receive the desired consistency of the black soap. You can use the cosmetic for your daily care the moment it cools down. Mind you, while boiling, water and potassium hydroxide produce fumes and unpleasant scent.

Properties of savon noir.

Natural cosmetics, where black soap belongs to, are good for health and beauty. These are especially good at moisturizing and softening epidermis. Additionally, such a product  cleanses, exfoliates dead epidermis cells and evens skin tone. What is the manner of use of black soap? The cosmetic has to be applied on wet skin, where it changes its form into foam. Use of a sponge or bath gloves facilitate obtaining smoother skin.
